  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 18, 2020, inaugurated the historic Kosi Rail Mahasetu through video conference. The government of India had sanctioned the mega bridge line project in Bihar in 2003-2004.

  • Arundhati Roy’s new book titled “Azadi: Freedom. Fascism. Fiction” is published by Penguin Books Limited.

  • Paytm app has been removed from the Google Play Store for allegedly violating its policies on gambling. Android users will no longer be able to download the app. 

  • American technology giant Apple’s first online retail channel in India will go live on September 23, the company confirmed. This is the first time the company is opening a first party retail channel in the country. 

  • Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javdekar and Vice President Shyam Jaju inaugurated a website and released an e-book on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday ( 17 Sept.). People from several sectors contributed for the e-book. 

  • World Bamboo Day is observed globally on 18 September every year.The theme for 11th edition of WBD(world bamboo day ) 2020 is ‘BAMBOO NOW.’

  • Four Indian cities -- New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru -- witnessed a significant drop in their rankings in the global listing of smart cities that was topped by Singapore.

  • The Institute for Management Development (IMD), in collaboration with Singapore University for Technology and Design (SUTD), has released the 2020 Smart City Index, with key findings on how technology is playing a role in the COVID-19 era.


  • Mexico has become the first country in the world to issue a sovereign bond linked to the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. It has raised EUR 750 million ($890 million) by such bonds.

  • The Lok Sabha passed two farm bills on September 17, 2020, amid the protests from the opposition parties and a section of the farm organisations. The two bills included the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and Framers Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020. 

  • The World Water Monitoring Day is observed globally on 18th September since 2003.Theme for World Water Monitoring Day 2020 is ‘Solve Water.’

  • The ICICI Home Finance launched “Apna Ghar Dreamz”, its new home loan scheme for skilled laborers like electricians, mechanics, painters, grocery store owners etc in the informal sector of Delhi.The credit amount of this loan ranges from Rs 2 lakh to 50 lakhs.

  • To promote the education of Indian System of Medicines and Ayurveda globally, Ministry has signed 13 MoUs for setting up AYUSH Academic Chairs with foreign Universities/ institutes under which AYUSH experts are deputed in  reputed Universities/ institutes to undertake teaching/ training / research activities. 

  • The Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on September 17, 2020, inaugurated India’s first exclusive private jet terminal at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The terminal will handle the flight operations of the private jets.
